User Acquisition

The User Acquisition report displays statistics on app install sources. You can select specific users for the report using segmentation.

Report period

The User Acquisition report works with user cohorts: when you select the report period it displays installations of this period, but all metrics of the specified user cohort are displayed since the app installed (not only in the specified period).

To set a custom reporting period, use the button. The selected time interval can be grouped by hours, days, weeks, or months.

Dimensions and metrics

The report contains metrics grouped into groupings.

To set up groupings and metrics:

  1. Click the Groupings and metrics button.
  2. In the window that opens, add the groupings and metrics to base the report on.
  3. Configure the order of metrics and groupings.

The order of metrics determines the order of columns, the order of groupings determines the nesting of rows in the table.

Data export

You can export data by choosing an item from the Export dropdown list above the chart. The data is exported based on the selected report settings: segmentation, grouping, and time period.

The dropdown list contains the following elements:

  • Export as CSV — Exports the data from the table in the CSV format.

  • Chart as PNG — Exports the chart image in the PNG format.

  • Chart as CSV — Exports the data from the chart in the CSV format.

  • Copy table API request — Displays the query text for exporting data from the table using the Reporting API. You can use this query to build your own dashboard or create automated data export scripts.

    Note

If you are getting the text of the query for the first time, make sure that the browser doesn't block the pop-up authorization window. In the authorization window, allow AppMetrica to access the data.

Frequently asked questions

Event counts in Event and User Acquisition reports don't match

The User Acquisition report displays only events that occurred after the app was installed and the installation occurred during the selected report period. The Events report displays events that are not related to the installation date. The user could have installed the app earlier, before the selected period, and complete the event later.

Why do the Retention metrics in the User Acquisition and Retention Analysis reports don't match?

In the Retention Analysis report, sessions are counted by calendar days — starting from 00:00.

In the User Acquisition report, sessions are counted based on the time since the app was installed. For example, if a user downloaded and opened the app at 7 p.m. on April 20, then the next day will start at 7 p.m. on April 21.

Accordingly, the indicators are also calculated: in the Retention Analysis report — calendar-based, and in the User Acquisition report — interval-based.
